H-beams
H-beams is one of the popular sections in the steel structure engineering. It is formed by hot rolling or welding. Types of H-beam are wide wing H-beam (HW series),medium wing H-beam (HM series), Narrow wing H-beams (HN series) and special type of columns. The first two types are suitable to be used as under pressure structure such as steel columns, HN series are suitable to be used as bending structure such as steel beam. Features: 1. Wide wing with strong strength in sides. The ratio of height and width of the hot rolled wide wing H-beam is up to 1:1, The rigidity of its weak axle (side direction) is significantly increased and can be used as under pressure structure. Even the wing width of common size of narrow wing H-beam is 1.1-1.4 times wider than the I-beam with same height so that the rigidity of the weak axle of common size of narrow wing H-beam is more than 1 time higher to that I-beam if the area is the same. The comparative curves are shown in graph. 2. Strong bending strength. Since the area of the section is more reasonably distributed, the bending strength of the strong axle of H-beam is better than that of I-beam if the area (or weight) is the same.
3. The two surfaces of the wing are parallel to each other with simple structure. The wing of hot rolled H-beam is wide. The two surfaces are parallel. Its structure is very simple for linking, e.g. the additional bevel washer for the wing linking bolts are not needed. The applicable distribution and diameter of the bolts is flexible and combined pieces can be linked together in the parallel inner-wing.
4. Further processing of H-beams. H-beam can be further processed into T section or honeycomb, which can be widely used in construction and shipbuilding. |
